| B&S Contracting And Superior Paving Receive 2006 Statewide Pavement Awards
Each year the Virginia Department of Transportation awards a Statewide Pavement Construction Award and a Statewide Pavement Maintenance Award. The prestigious awards recognize the two best projects from across the state one for a new construction project and one for a maintenance project. The awards were presented on October 1 at The Jefferson Hotel in Richmond. The Statewide Pavement Construction Award was presented to B&S Contracting for its work on Route 262 in Augusta County. The project was managed by Marlin Hewitt and Mike Agnor. The inspectors were Alan Tucker of VDOT and Tom Nicely and Danny Bartgess of RK&K Engineers. The project was the construction of 4.2 miles of roadway that completed the loop around the city of Staunton. Over 65,000 metric tons of asphalt were placed. The Statewide Pavement Maintenance Award was presented to Superior Paving for its work on Route 29 in Madison County. The project manager was Bobby Walton and the VDOT inspector was Chuck Clatterbuck. The project included a 1.5 inch asphalt overlay on a 3.3 mile section of Route 29 in Madison County. A total of 5,400 tons of surface mix was placed on the high volume roadway which averages 8 to 9 crossings and intersections per mile. The project resulted in a 40% improvement in ride quality before the overlay. The success of these projects is largely due to the cooperation between B&S Contracting and the Verona Residency and Superior Paving and the Culpeper Residency said William R. Bailey III, PE, Assistant State Materials Engineer. Source: November 2007 VTCA BlueTop Newsletter |
