| SURFACE TREATMENT Surface treatment or “Chip Seal” is an application of liquid asphalt which is then overlaid with small pea-sized chips of gravel. Surface treatment is used to prevent pavement deterioration, improve skid resistance and to waterproof an old pavement. An ideal candidate for surface treatment must be in good condition and be structurally sound with no deformations. A surface treatment job typically consists of pothole patching, crack filling, pre-sweeping, chip seal, post sweeping, and re-stripping as necessary. Surface treatment jobs have a curing period during which it is advisable to control traffic on the road. This type of job is always done in warm weather for best results and a typical surface is applied an average of every eight years.
